Baraboo is known as the “Gem” City because when their court house was built, volunteers assembled and planted trees, shrubs, and flowers around the new city monument. They also entertained a picnic for community members. On this day, Baraboo was named the “Gem” City because they crystallized the thought of what Baraboo should be.
